Website Use & Content Protection Policy

1. Purpose

The Roots ReggaeTO website is a cultural, historical, educational and archival platform
dedicated to documenting, presenting and advancing the living history and legacy of roots reggae
in Toronto.
The website contains original written material, historical research, photographs, archival
materials, artwork, graphics, audiovisual material, interviews, recordings, designs, layouts,
compilations, trademarks, logos and other cultural and creative content.
This material represents significant intellectual, cultural and creative work and is intended to be
experienced and shared through the Roots ReggaeTO website in accordance with this Policy.

2. No Unauthorized Copying or Reproduction

No part of the Roots ReggaeTO website or its contents may be copied, reproduced,
republished, distributed, transmitted, displayed, modified, adapted, archived,
commercially exploited or otherwise reused without prior written consent from the
appropriate rights holder.

This prohibition includes, but is not limited to:
● screenshots or screen captures of website pages or content;
● copying or reproducing website text;
● downloading, extracting or reproducing photographs or archival images;
● copying graphics, artwork, logos or visual designs;
● reproducing page layouts or substantial portions of the website’s design;
● copying or reproducing interviews, transcripts or documentary material;
● downloading, extracting, recording or reproducing audio or video;
● reproducing historical research or original editorial content;
● copying timelines, databases, compilations or other curated materials;
● reproducing content on another website, social-media platform, publication, presentation,
exhibition or digital platform;
● incorporating website content into another work, database, archive, artificial-intelligence
system or dataset; and
● using website content for commercial, promotional, institutional or fundraising purposes.

3. Screenshots Are Not Permission

The ability to technically capture or save material from the website does not constitute
permission to reproduce or redistribute it.
A screenshot of a Roots ReggaeTO webpage, image, article, exhibit, graphic, archival
presentation or other material remains subject to the rights and restrictions applicable to that
material.

Screenshots may not be reproduced, published, distributed, altered or commercially used
without prior written consent.

4. No Republishing or Mirroring

Users may not reproduce Roots ReggaeTO content on another website, blog, publication, digital
archive, social-media account, online exhibition or other platform without prior written
authorization.
Users may not create a substantially similar copy or mirror of the Roots ReggaeTO website or
any substantial portion of its content.

5. No Unauthorized Commercial or Institutional Use

Roots ReggaeTO content may not be used without permission for:
● commercial products or services;
● advertising or marketing;
● sponsored content;
● institutional publications;
● educational or training materials;
● exhibitions;
● documentaries or other audiovisual productions;
● promotional campaigns;
● fundraising;
● merchandise;
● presentations;
● publications; or
● any other commercial or organizational purpose.
Separate permission may be required for individual materials, particularly where third-party
copyright or cultural rights are involved.

6. Copyright and Other Rights

Copyright and other intellectual-property rights in website materials belong to Roots ReggaeTO,
AMCHASEE, individual creators, photographers, artists, musicians, interviewees, archival
contributors, licensors or other identified rights holders, as applicable.

Not every item appearing on Roots ReggaeTO should be assumed to be owned by Roots
ReggaeTO.

Where material is identified as belonging to another rights holder, permission must be obtained
from the appropriate rights holder before reproduction or reuse.
Nothing on this website transfers ownership of copyright or any other intellectual-property right
to a website user.

7. Cultural and Historical Materials

Roots ReggaeTO includes cultural and historical materials documenting people, communities,
musicians, artists, businesses, places, events and traditions.
Some materials may have significance beyond conventional intellectual-property rights,
including personal, community, cultural, archival and attribution considerations.
Users are expected to respect the provenance, context and integrity of such materials.
The alteration, decontextualization, misrepresentation or unauthorized commercial appropriation
of cultural or historical material is not permitted.

8. Permission Requests

Roots ReggaeTO welcomes legitimate requests to reproduce or reference its materials.
Requests for permission should identify:

the specific material requested;
how the material will be used;
where it will appear;
whether the use is commercial or non-commercial;
the intended audience;
the duration of the proposed use; and
the requested format or quantity of reproduction.

Permission must be obtained in writing before reproduction takes place.

Permission granted for one use does not constitute permission for subsequent or different uses.

9. Limited Reference and Citation

Nothing in this Policy is intended to prevent lawful activities permitted under applicable
copyright legislation, including applicable exceptions for purposes such as criticism, review,
news reporting, research, private study, education or parody, where the statutory requirements for
such an exception are satisfied.

Where material is lawfully referenced or quoted, users should provide appropriate attribution and
should not imply endorsement, authorship or affiliation where none exists.

10. Artificial Intelligence and Automated Use

No material from Roots ReggaeTO may be systematically scraped, harvested, copied, extracted,
indexed for purposes beyond ordinary website discovery, or incorporated into an artificial-
intelligence training dataset, model, database or automated content-generation system without
prior written authorization from the applicable rights holder.
This includes the unauthorized extraction or ingestion of:
● articles;
● interviews;
● transcripts;
● photographs;
● archival materials;
● captions;
● metadata;
● artwork;
● audiovisual content;
● databases; and
● other original or curated website materials.

11. Integrity of the Website

Users may not reproduce or manipulate Roots ReggaeTO content in a manner that:
● misrepresents its meaning or historical context;
● falsely attributes authorship;
● removes required attribution;
● implies sponsorship or endorsement;
● damages the reputation of the creators or subjects;
● misappropriates cultural or historical material; or
● creates a false association with Roots ReggaeTO, AMCHASEE or any affiliated
initiative.

12. Enforcement and Reservation of Rights

Roots ReggaeTO reserves all rights available to it and to applicable rights holders under
Canadian copyright law and other applicable law.
Where unauthorized copying, reproduction, distribution or use is identified, Roots ReggaeTO
may request removal of the material, seek appropriate remedies, contact the relevant platform or
service provider, or take other action available to the applicable rights holder.

Failure to enforce this Policy in a particular instance does not constitute a waiver of any
rights.

13. Ownership and Permission

Nothing in this Policy grants any user a licence, assignment, transfer or other authorization to
reproduce or exploit Roots ReggaeTO materials except where expressly stated in writing.

All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
